Big The Cat Brings Fishing To Green Hill Zone In Sonic The Hedgehog Mega Drive ROM Hack

Bigs-FIshing-Derby-Mega-Drive-ROM-HackOver the years we've featured a whole host of ROM hacks varying from simple graphical alterations to extensive gameplay modifications, but nothing as groundbreaking as Big's Fishing Derby. Using the original Sonic The Hedgehog ROM file as a starting point, one talented developer has somehow converted the 16-bit classic into a fishing mini game staring Sonic Adventure's Big The Cat.

This incredibly unusual take on the 1991 platformer comes as quite a surprise, and a rather impressive one at that. Featuring a good selection of levels sporting familiar scenery from four different Sonic titles, you're tasked with fishing out a small green frog from the depths below. As simple as it may sound, various badniks are submerged below and determined to prevent your progress.

While this may be lacking in the single-player department, Big's Fishing Derby begins to shine is in its multiplayer functionality. With player two taking control of Dr Robotnik, this Sonic ROM hack follows the style of other two player puzzle games, allowing you to unleash havoc on the other player's side - something which can be done by deliberately catching the badniks below.

Big's Fishing Derby (MegaDrive Hack) Gameplay

As usual, to enjoy this ROM hack you will need to have a legally obtained original Sonic The Hedgehog Mega Drive ROM to which you can apply this patch to. Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the project's thread, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
