Before Mario Announce Book On Nintendo's Pre-Gaming Toys & Collectables

Before-Mario-Book-AnnouncedAlthough most will remember Nintendo from their creations of the 80s and onwards, there's a much more detailed past to the Japanese company that spans all the way back to 1889. Toys, games, playing cards and more could all be found under their name, many items of which you'll soon be able to read about in an upcoming book.

For several years now this overlooked history has been documented on a popular blog known as Before Mario. On a regular basis Before Mario has provided detailed write-ups on various products the company created, along with luscious photographs of these desirable items.

With a growing library of information and visuals covering the likes of the Ultra Hand, Hip Flip, and the Light Telephone, Before Mario have announced that they've teamed up with Omake Books to publish their findings. While very little is known about this upcoming coffee table book or its expected price, you'll want to keep a close eye on further developments as this is one publication you don't want to miss.

This is fantastic news - as soon as this is available to pre-order, I'll be doing so.
I love vintage Nintendo items as many of my Retro Collect peers will know, but can only afford to add the odd item to my collection now and again.
One of the authors, Erik Voskull, has one of the most beautiful game collections I have ever seen, so I am very excited about this

Wonder how much info in this will be different from the history of nintendo which already covers pretty much all of Nintendos pre games console toy stuff?

Very true - the Pix'N Love book was fantastic, but I will take as much info and pics on pre-gaming nintendo items as I can get in printed form. The author's personal collection is worthy of a book in its own right, so it should be a worthy addition to this criminally undiscussed area of gaming history

Let us know how it is if you get a copy, if there is even more info than the pix'n'love book i'd definately pick it up.

I agree, i love seeing the stuff Nintendo made before consoles. The old fonts & retro 50's america but with a Japanese twist illustrations look amazing even now
