Bandai Wonderswan Flashmasta Flash Cartridge Nears Release With Added Features

Wonderwan-Flashmasta-ProgressBack in 2012 it was revealed that a flash cartridge was in development for the Japanese exclusive Bandai Wonderswan handheld. Created by the team behind the Neo Geo Pocket Flashmasta, further progress has now been made on the WonderSwan Flashmasta flash cartridge - the ability to cycle through multiple game ROMs on a single device.

While we may have been spoilt with the likes of Krikzz’s Everdrive range and the ease of use they provide (with SD card storage and built-in menus to choose a game from), the WonderSwan Linkmasta instead uses more simplistic methods to get your games into memory. Once the upcoming device is loaded with a selection of ROMs, you’ll need to turn the system on and off until the game you’re hoping to play boots up. Although this method is anything but ideal in comparison to other devices, we’re not complaining. The Bandai WonderSwan is long overdue an aftermarket solution to loading game ROMs, and if the Neo Geo Pocket Flashamasta is anything to go by, we’re in good hands.

As a final note the team have stated in their latest update that they’re closing in on the final version of the hardware, leaving just the software side of things to look at. So while we await further information on the device’s release date and cost, here’s the latest prototype in action on the real hardware.
