Back to Retro: Sonic Generations Gameplay Video

Sonic-Generations-Gameplay-TrailerEarlier this month Sega announced that their famous Blue Hedgehog would be celebrating his 20th birthday in style. Scepticism aside, a new Sonic Generations gameplay trailer has appeared online showcasing the upcoming release, featuring plenty of appreciation for Sonic's retro roots.

With just over two months to go till the official anniversary date (23rd June 2011), our hopes are set rather high as Sega finally presented gamers with the ability to play as 'Classic' Sonic once more. Whether the fans of the original series have finally been listened too or not, only time will tell.

The new gameplay trailer details how the same level (Green Hill Zone in this instance) can be played in the traditional 2D perspective, or via the modern 3D style the last few generations have offered. But the most reassuring gameplay trait to note is outlined by Sega below:

Each incarnation of Sonic in Sonic Generations comes complete with his trademark special move, Spin Dash and Spin Attack for Classic Sonic, and the Homing Attack and Sonic Boost for Modern Sonic.

Gamers can rejoice that the Classic Sonic will only be granted his traditional (and by far more than needed) moveset we're all familiar with.

But with enough concerns regarding the upcoming release (from a retro gaming perspective), here is the promising gameplay trailer released by Sega earlier today:
