Apple II 'Lode Runner Classic' Ported To iOS & Android Devices

Apple-II-Lode-Runner-Ported-To-iOS-Android-Devices2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the treasure hunting puzzler, Lode Runner. Having first arrived on the Apple II in 1983, the game has since seen ports and remakes on countless systems over the years. To mark this celebration, a port of the original game has just been released for iOS and Android devices - Lode Runner Classic.

While studying architecture at the University of Washington, Douglas E. Smith submitted a refined version of his then called 'Miner' game to Brøderbund in 1982. Following their rejection, Smith returned to his original code, added Joystick support and colour graphics, and renamed his promising title to Lode Runner. The addition of such small features and finesse led to Smith receiving offers from Sierra, Sirius, Synergistic, and Brøderbund... and the rest is history.

The premise of Lode Runner is quite simple. Work your way through tight chambers, scale ladders, tackle hand-to-hand bars and grab all the treasure you can get your hands on, at least what you can with the on-going threat of guards. The most remarkable aspect to Lode Runner was the addition of what is considered to be the earliest level editor ever present in a video game. This ground-breaking feature offered gamers a never-ending choice of levels, which at the time was quite something.

This influential title has now been remastered and re-released for iOS and Android, keeping everything from the original intact, whilst adding several new features such as leaderboards and time attack mode.
