Nilsen Reveals Sega's Scrapped Holographic Sonic 2 Cart Labels

Sonic-2-Holographic-Labels-RevealedIf you thought Sonic The Hedgehog 2 couldn't get any better, you're wrong. Sega of America's ex-Director of Market Al Nilsen recently took to Twitter to showcase something which was planned for Sonic 2sday which unfortunately got left behind. Believe it or not but Sega actually planned to give the 1992 release snazzy hologram labels.

This fantastic reveal was made by Nilsen earlier this week on Twitter, accompanied by a photograph displaying some of the samples that were made. Featuring the iconic image of both Sonic and Tails leaning on an enlarged number 2, the holographic Mega Drive label also features a background layer of Sega's logo shining through in all colours.

While this reveal twenty four years later may be disappointing to some Sonic The Hedgehog fans, especially knowing it didn't materialise due to the expensive manufacturing cost, it's an incredible piece of missing history and no doubt another item that belongs in the Hidden Palace.

It goes without saying that I'm pretty excited by this :-)

That looks to be the same hologram that Video Games and Computer Entertainment magazine used on their cover back when the game was released. Perhaps Sega repurposed them.
