You may recall 8Bit Music Power, the chip tune music album that was released on a Famicom cartridge earlier in 2016. The slightly bizarre (yet effortlessly cool) format made the album a bit of a niche item and probably turned many people off, seeing as you need either a Famicom or a Retron 5 (other Faminclones are available) to experience the tweeness locked inside the dimunitive plastic shell. You can find RetroCollect's review of 8Bit Music Power here, and we thought that even with the relative inaccesibilty of the Famicom cartridge format, the overall package was very attractive for collectors of oddities and those with an interest in inventive uses of antiquated technology. Sounded pretty good, too.
The good news is that 8Bit Music Power is being re-released on a more traditional music CD in early 2017 and preorders are open now. Not only this, the new version also comes with a fully translated English language 'magazine' that gives information on the making of the tracks, interviews with the artists involved and features exclusive artwork relating to the album.
The original 8Bit Music Power package was a real treat for fans of both pixel art and chip tunes, and this new re-issue looks like it could be a big hit with fans of either who don't happen to own the hardware required to play a Famicom cartridge. The fact that it's all now in English is an added bonus. You can preorder the 8Bit Music Power CD and Magazine at Play-Asia.com following the link below.
