2D Demake of Final Fantasy VII in Development Using RPG Maker

Final-Fantasy-VII-DemakeWhile we patiently await the inevitable arrival of a HD remake of Final Fantasy VII, the various fan projects out there which further immortalise the RPG epic are welcome distractions. Instead of bringing this title up to date with modern technologies, one programmer has decided to do the opposite and take the title back to its classic 16-bit roots.

This project, not to be confused with the Nintendo NES hack/Chinese bootleg out there, is the latest creation of Lucas Brown - a fanatic rebuilding Squaresoft's adventure from the ground up using RPG Maker 2003. The Australian is currently redrawing the various scenes from the game in stunning 2D pixel art, and using the free game-making software to splice everything together.

Unfortunately though, despite the impressive progress you can see below, Brown has recently stated he does not believe he has the time to commit to this mammoth task. Whether or not he will look towards other's input or entrust the job at hand to someone else is yet to be decided, but until then, keep checking back for further updates on this technical feat.
