16-Bit Aquatic Hero 'James Pond' Set For Kickstarter Return

James-Pond-KickstarterTwo decades ago the gaming world didn't rely on over-powered digital weaponry, high definition visuals and online multiplayer - instead, all you needed was a flagship character coupled with platforming action. While this formula didn't always work, one British offering - James Pond - captivated countless gamers, many of which will be pleased to hear he is making a return.

Vectordean's original creation in 1990 became a smash hit on several systems including the Commodore Amiga and Sega Mega Drive, but it wasn't until his robotic sequel, James Pond 2: Robocod, that the fishy franchise began to take off. Although the series has remained somewhat dormant since 1993 (if you don't include the woeful ports of Robocod on the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation 2, along with the iPhone game James Pond in the Deathly Shallows), James Pond looks set to return on his 23rd anniversary thanks to Kickstarter.

Developers Gameware have managed to secure the license for James Pond and have begun teaming up with the game's original creator, Chris Sorrell, with the aim of reviving this slippery iconic British hero. While anything is yet to be confirmed, Gameware have been rather vocal on Facebook and Twitter, along with revealing that their Kickstarter is due to go live on Friday the 20th September.
