Retro Game Club: WarioLand 4 (Nintendo Game Boy Advance)

Retro-Game-Club-Warioland-4-Nintendo-Game-Boy-AdvanceToday we kick off a new feature on RetroCollect, simply titled the Retro Game Club. We ask you to join us in replaying a classic title and discussing it in great detail, with WarioLand 4 on the Game Boy Advance up first.

With Wario always standing in Mario's shadow, we felt it was about time he got a bit more recognition. While his games didn't offer the fluidity of your regular Mario adventure, they offered a whole new darker experience combined with lust and greed. A fair few retro titles exist under the Wario name to date, however we've chosen his Game Boy Advance outing to start with as it's the most accessible of the lot.

Introducing WarioLand 4

WarioLand 4 arrived on the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in November 2001 (Europe), just a few months after the handheld had been released in Europe. Upon release it received a fantastic 9/10 from an IGN reviewer for it's outstanding level design and re-playability (a great sign for the Retro Game Club!).

Wario, in his usual treasure hunter mindset, stumbles upon an article in the newspaper regarding a golden pyramid hiding deep within the jungle. Within seconds, he is in his pink Cadillac heading off in search of the many treasures ahead. Upon arrival a familiar black cat is awaiting him which leads Wario into a game of chase. Not soon after Wario finds himself falling down an endless chute arriving on the map screen of the game. Unsure of his location, it's up to you now to lead him out (with his pockets full of treasure).

Your task is to beat the bosses at the end of each section leading you to the Golden Diva of the Pyramid, something easier said than done...

Excellent game, pretty sure my copy I have now has a 100% complete save on it.

Such a cheap game as well for a shmick designed, first party title.
