It’s party time, let’s have some fun! The RetroCollect’s Retro Game Club is back and ready to find our community’s very own speed demon capable of insane high scores. Buckle up tight as we tackle Sega’s one and only Crazy Taxi.
For those yet to become familiar with the Retro Game Club at RetroCollect, our active community- including you, revisits a classic game from our colourful past over the course of a month, exploring the ups and downs along the way whilst occasionally taking part in a high score challenge.
Introducing Crazy Taxi
Despite arriving back in 1999 in arcades courtesy of Sega’s AM3 team known as Hitmaker, the Fare-Em-Up driver still to this day holds up as an incredible game. Since release it has appeared on countless platforms ranging all the way back from the Sega Dreamcast to the Xbox 360.
The idea behind the game was incredibly simple. Pick up customers in your yellow Cadillac cab and get them to their destination as soon as possible. With a ticking timer though, it’s up to you to make best use of the various shortcuts whilst taking any opportunity to perform money making stunts and tricks on your way to the next stop.
The speed combined with a hint of humour, a fantastic soundtrack (featuring The Offspring), and addictive gameplay made Sega’s Crazy Taxi and instant hit and a killer app for the Sega Dreamcast upon release.
